Unity in Diversity: Virtual Sports Festival 2021

A virtual Sports Festival, organized by the Office of Student Affairs and supported by the Diversity and Inclusion Office, the Physical Education Unit, the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, the School of Chinese Medicine and the Yale-China Chinese Language Centre, was successfully held from 4 to 18 March 2021.

With the aim of promoting cultural diversity as well as physical and mental wellness through sports, the festival offered the audience a wide range of cultural activities. Some of the festival’s highlights were:

Opening Talk: Diversity in Sports—Strive for excellence. Appreciate the differences

In this talk, Asian Games medalists Ms. Camille Cheng (swimming) and Ms. Hilda Choi (triathlon) shared their personal experience in world competitions as well as how they overcame various challenges during the coronavirus pandemic. You can click here to revisit the talk.

Easy Exercise Tutorials

The festival featured three simple and enjoyable sports tutorials—Baduanjin, Shuttlecock kicking , and Chair Yoga. Time to get moving with the instructors!

Cultural Sharing

The sharing sessions provided viewers cultural viewpoints to look at dragon boating and also the mind sport—Xiangqi (Chinese chess) (Part 1; Part 2), bringing audience new perspectives to these two kinds of traditional sports.
