工作人員量度風櫃的排放風速 Measuring the discharge velocity of a fume cupboard exhaust stack •安排大學同人參加職業安全健康局舉辦的培 訓課程：七十二名實驗室技術員完成了一般實 驗室安全及健康課程；五十一名來自校內各 部門的安全聯絡人則完成了基本安全管理課 程。 • 於校內進行了二百四十次實地視察，向有關部 門提供安全建議，並為三百多份硏究計劃書 審核使用實驗室的安全措施。 •調校了約五十個供校內使用的輻射量度儀， 亦為本地工業界調校了七十個同類儀器，並向 校外人士提供協助共一百一十五次。 •用六十萬元更換舊的安全設備。 • 為約一百五十個通風系統（包括風櫃和生物安 全櫃）作安全檢核，另審批了逾百個建築安全 計劃。 •處理了兩萬公升化學廢物、八百公斤過期化學 品和十七公噸生物廢料。 • 改良了細胞毒性藥物量重櫃的設計。 大學又於年中設立環境事務督導委員會，集合 各部門的專家，統籌及監督校內的環境事務，開 展環保培訓和交流的工作，並開發環境管理系 統，致力營造美好的敎硏及學習環境。委員會又 與大學安全及環境事務處、物業管理處、校園發 展處、大學通識敎育部、學生事務處、交通組 等行政部門合力執行環保政策，以保護資源、減 少污染、監察環境和推廣環保意識。 除了加強管制建築工程的空氣污染及噪音外，大 學亦開展計劃，監察樓宇內的空氣素質。 在中華電力有限公司「非住宅客戶照明裝置回扣 計劃」的支持下，大學於二零零零年推行用電 需求管理計劃，以改善校內二十一幢樓宇照明系 統的能源效益。工程於二零零一年四月完竣， 中大亦成為全港率先以 T5 能源效益照明系統取代 常用的 T8 系統的機構，預計每年可節省至少七 十萬元的電費。 Safety Enhancement and Environmental Protection The University Safety Office was renamed the Universit y Safety and Environment Office during the year and an Environmental Officer was recruited to help look after a wide range of activities to improve the campus environment an d enhance safety on campus. Here are some of the major accomplishments during the year: • Postgraduate laboratory safety training was made compulsory and examinable. • An I n-house General Laboratory Safety an d Health Course was organized for 72 laboratory technicians; 51 safety coordinators also attended the In-house Basic Safety Management Course provided by the Occupational Safety and Healt h Council. • A total of 240 on-site advisory inspections were conducted; over 300 safety approvals were processed for laboratory-related research grant applications. • Some 50 radiation measuring instruments were calibrated for internal users. As a service to the community, 70 such calibrations were undertaken for local industries and assistance was given to 115 external clients. • Some HK$600,000 was disbursed to replace old safety equipment. • Some 150 air systems for fume cupboards and biosafety cabinets were validated ； over 100 construction safety plans were evaluated and approved. • Over 20,000 litres of chemical waste, 800 kilograms of ageing chemicals, and 17 tons of biological waste were disposed of. • Cytotoxic weighing cabinets were further improved. To render the campus a more congenial place for teaching , learning, and scholastic activities, the University Steering Committee on Environment was formed to pool expertise from across the campus to look after co-ordination, monitoring, training, and communication matters, and the development of environmental management systems within CUHK.
