President Ou T s u i n- chen offered a dinner in his honour the same evening. • On 25th October, M r . L i n d l ey S. Sloan, Director of the Northeast Asia Division of T h e Asia Foundation of San Francisco, visited New Asia College. He was accompanied by M r . Stephen Uhalley, Jr., Assistant Representative of T h e Asia Foundation in Ho ng Ko n g. • M r . M A Kam- s h u n , a 3rd year student and Secretary to the Students' Un i o n, Un i t ed College, left for the U . S . A. on January 9, 1966 for about two and a half months. Selected f r om among the local students, he wo u ld take part i n the Seventh Far East Student Leader Project sponsored by the U.S. State Department and held in America f r om January 10, 1966 for some 70 days. M r . M A and other young student leaders f r om the Far East w i ll visit representative American college and university campuses an d meet American students. COLLEGE REPORTS • M r . C H U A N Han-sheng, newly appointed Senior Lecturer in H i s t o ry assigned to New Asia College, assumed his teaching duties in the College on 9th November. He lectures on “ H i s t o ry of Mo d e rn Ch i n a" and "History of Chinese Society and E c o n omy ". • M r . M E N G Chuan-ming, newly appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Departmen t of Chinese Literature, assumed his teachin g duties at New Asia College on 18th October. He lectures on "Selected Readings in Chines e L i t e r a t u r e" and " Gu i d ed Readings in Chinese L i t e r a t u r e” • As the terms of office of the current officers of the Student Un i on of New Asia College were due to expire on 31st January, an election campaign was launched by an ad hoc group organized by the Supervisory Committee of the Student Un i on in November. Th r ee presidential candidate s delivered election addresses on 30th November. A f t er their addresses, they answered question s asked by the electorate. T h e actual election was held in the College A u d i t o r i um on 2nd December. A total of 406 students went to the poll under the supervision of the College President, Vice-President, Dean of Studies and Ac t i ng Dean o f Students. M r . L E E T i en M i n g, a 2nd year student of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology, was elected President, and Miss M O K Ch i Tang, a 2nd year Fine Arts student, elected Vice- President. T h e ir terms of office w i ll be f r om 1st February 1966 to 31st January, 1967, • T he Student U n i on of New Asia College recently decided to sponso r a series of talks by specialists. T h e first in the series was given on November 18 by D r . He n ry H . L . Hu, barrister and U r b an Council member, the topic being " L a w in Ho ng K o n g ". A f t er his talk, the Student Un i on offered a lunch party in his honour, wh i ch was also attended by President Ou. • T he paintings of M r . Johnson Chow, part-time Lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts of N ew Asia College, were among the many works of art on display at the F i f th National Fine Arts Ex h i b i t i on held in Ta i pei i n November. M r . Chow's painting " A Pair of Eagles" wo n a special award and was accepted as a permanent exhibit in the National Gallery in the History Mu s eum. • D r. C . T. Yung, President of Ch u ng Chi College and first Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University, was conferred the titl e of Ordinary Officer of the C i v il Divisio n of the Mo st Excellent Order of the British Empire by her Majesty the Queen o n New Year's Day. D r. Y u ng is also an Unofficial Justice of the Peace. D r . Y u n g has also been appointed by His Excellency the Governor to the chairmanship of a Supervision Board for the research study of urban family life in Ho ng Ko n g, for wh i ch an allocation of $1,000,000 was made in August f r om the Lotteries Fu n d. T he main purpose of this research w i ll be to study the effects on family life and relationship of social and environmental changes, so as to provide data wh i ch w i ll assist in the planning of social service generally and in particular social welfare services bo th official and voluntary. • T h e First Student Seminar, sponsored by the H o n g K o ng Federation of Students and financially supported by the Asia Foundation and the International Student Conference, was held at Ch u ng Chi College f r om 27th to 30th December, 1965. T he theme of the Semina r was "Post-Secondary Education in Ho ng K o n g " . M r . Lou is T o n g, a 4 t h year student in Sociology of Ch u ng Chi College, was the Chairma n of the Preparatory Committee of the Seminar, A T h e Board of Studies in Biology sponsored a t r ip to Ta i wan at the end of December.
