STUDENT ENROLMENT T h e total enrolment figure of the Un i v e r s i ty u p to the end o f September 1966 was 1,978. T h e re were 1,928 undergraduates in the three Colleges of the Un i v e r s i t y. 1,165 of t h em were males and 763 females. C h u ng C h i College had a sub-total of 719 students wh i le N ew Asia College and U n i t ed College 624 and 585 respectively. I n addition, 33 post graduate students study in the Un i v e r s i t y 's Graduate School and 17 in the School of Education. T h e figure 1,978 d i d not include the 23 trainees enrolled in N e w Asia I n s t i t u t e of Ad v a n c ed Chinese Studies and Research nor the 25 exchange and p a r t - t i me students i n C h u ng C h i and N ew Asia. Y u n g the farewell dinner party given by 166 Chinese organizations on October 19 i n h o n o ur of the H o n . J.C. M c D o u a l l, the r e t i r i ng Secretary for Chinese Affairs, and his wife. A t the party, D r . Y u n g accepted on behalf of the Un i v e r s i ty the M c D o u a l l Scholarship F u n d, w h i ch w i l l be used for establishing scholarships for students of Chinese L i t e r a t u r e and H i s t o ry at the Un i v e r s i t y. T h e F u n d, amo u n t i n g to HK $ 1 5 0 , 0 0 0, had been collected f r om al l walks of life f r om the local Chinese c ommu n i t y. M r . CALTEX SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHEMISTRY STUDENTS T h e Un i v e r s i t y 's Senat e Comm i t t ee on Un i v e r s i ty Scholarships has approve d the extension of the Caltex Scholarships of th e value of $2,000 each for another year to M r . Chan Cheuk Y u i of U n i t ed College and M r . Ng an H a rk L i m of N ew Asia College, both students of Ch em i s t r y. T h e scholarship f o r me r ly held by M r . Y u e Chee Ping, a recent graduate cum laude of C h u n g C h i College, w i l l be awarde d to M r . T eo Boon K e o n g, a 2nd-year student in the same College. R u t h M . Ma c k, former Lecturer in English at C h u ng Ch i, passed away on October 5 at 8:45 a.m. in the Baptist Hospital, K o w l o o n, afte r a long illness. She was 58. M r s . M a c k j o i n ed C h u ng C hi in August, 1956 and retired t wo mo n t hs ago. 6
