COMINGS AND GOINGS Δ A t the i n v i t a t i on of the Un i v e r s i ty of M i c h i g a n, Vice-Chancellor C . M . L i left for the U n i t ed States on A p r i l 20, to be one of the guest speakers at that Un i v e r s i t y 's Sesquicentennial Celebrations. L e a d i n g educationists f r om ma ny parts of the w o r l d were i n v i t e d to attend. O n his way to the Un i v e r s i ty of M i c h i g a n, D r . L i visited N ew Y o r k and Ha r v a rd Un i v e r s i ty on business o f T h e Chinese Un i v e r s i ty i n c l u d i ng r e c r u i t me nt of personnel. Before r e t u r n i ng to H o n g K o n g on M a y 5 , he w i l l also call on the Un i v e r s i ty of P i t t s b u r gh and visit San Francisco. Δ M r . T . C . Cheng, P r o - V i c e - Ch a n c e l l or of the Un i v e r s i ty and Presiden t of U n i t ed C o l l e g e , r e t u r n e d to H o n g K o n g on A p r i l 21 , after a t w o - m o n th visit to institutions o f higher learning i n B r i t a in and the U n i t ed States. M r . Ch e n g began his visit to B r i t i sh universities i n the m i d d le of Fe b r u a ry this year at the i n v i t a t i on of the B r i t i s h Council. On Fe b r u a ry 21 he received the insignia of O . B . E. f r om H is Grace the D u ke of K e n t at an investiture at B u c k i n g h am Palace. I n early A p r i l, M r . Ch e ng flew to the U n i t e d States to visit Ame r i c an universities and colleges. He conferred, inter alia, w i t h th e authorities of W i l l i ams College, w i t h w h i ch U n i t e d College has a co-operative p r o g r amme, and w i t h th e authorities of I n d i a na U n i - versity and Stanford Un i v e r s i t y about the establish- me nt of a similar programme. He also met p r om i n e nt citizens of Chinese descent in the U . S . A. Δ Professor A . L . Cullen, Dean of the Science Faculty and He ad of th e De p a r t me nt of Electrical Engineering, Un i v e r s i ty of Sheffield, left on A p r i l 17 after spending t wo weeks i n H o n g K o n g to advise the Vice-Chancellor of the Un i v e r s i ty on its electronics studies. Δ Professor H . F. W i l l i ams o n, Professor of Economics, No r t hwe s t e rn Un i v e r s i t y, and Secretary- Treasurer of the Ame r i c an E c o n om ic Association, visited the three Colleges of the Un i v e r s i ty d u r i ng the m i d d le of A p r i l. T h e purpose of Professor W i l l i ams o n 's visit to H o n g K o n g and other Asian countries was to offer to establish closer relationship s between Ame r i c an institutions and those of other countries in the field of economics. Δ M r . H a r o ld H . C . H a n of Co l umb ia Un i v e r s i ty called on the Vice-Chancellor an d visited the Un i v e r s i ty L i b r a r y and the three Colleges t owa rd the end of M a r c h on behalf of the Un i v e r s i ty of D e l h i, where he has been assisting in the new De p a r t me nt of Chinese Studies set u p w i t h a F o r d grant. Δ D r . S . T . T s o u, Senior L e c t u r e r i n Ma t h ema t i cs and Dean of the Facult y of Science at U n i t ed College, r e t u r n ed to H o n g K o n g on A p r i l 23, 1967 after a three- m o n t h visi t to universities in B r i t a in and the U n i t ed States. T s o u attended t wo Conferences: the Ma t h ema t i cs S ymp o s i um hel d in D u r h am f r om M a r c h 20 to M a r c h 23 , and the 19th B r i t i sh Ma t h ema- tical C o l l o q u i um held in Swansea f r om A p r i l 5 to A p r i l 7’ 1967. K i t a m u r a , L e c t u r er in Physics, C h u ng C h i College, wa s i n v i t ed to deliver a paper on W i c k 's T h e o r em for Sp i n Operation at the A n n u al Me e t i ng of the Physical Society of Japan on A p r i l 2-7 at T o h o ku Un i v e r s i t y. D r . K i t a m u ra left for T o k y o on M a r c h 31. Δ M i ss L i n a Y a n Ha u - Ye e, a 2nd-year A r ts student and Social Convener o f the U n i t ed College Student U n i o n , returned to H o n g K o n g on M a r c h 30 after p a r t i c i p a t i ng in th e 10th Far East Student Leader Project held i n the U n i t ed States. T h i s Project was arranged by the U . S. State De p a r t me nt and lasted about 70 days. M i ss Y an and other student leaders f r om the Far East visited various Ame r i c an universities and colleges, and the y also took part in an experi- me nt in international living. O n her r e t u rn t r i p, M i ss Y an visited Japan and the Philippines. C o m i ng w i t h her was M i ss Ma n s h ai N i k om r ak of T h a i l a n d, another participant in the Pro- ject, who was on a sightseeing t r i p in H o n g K o n g. Δ M r . H u J a n - Ch ou and M r . Chan U - Se e k, Board members of the Un i v e r s i ty of Malaya, visited N e w Asia College on M a r c h 31.
