C h o h -M in g L i, the V ice-C hancellor, attend- ed a m eeting o f the A dm in is tra tiv e Board o f the Association o f Southeast Asian In s titu tio n s o f H ig h e r Le a rn in g ( A S A IH L ) in Baguio, P h ilip pines, on 16th- 18th Novem ber. Am ong the projects discussed at the m eeting were: an exchange scheme among universities in Southeast Asia, a general meeting in M a n ila in 1968 o f all unive rsities in the region and a sem inar in fine arts in H o ng K o n g in 1969. D r. L i also visited Singapore at the in v ita tio n o f Nanyang U n ive rs ity. Δ D r. C hoh-H ao L i, Professor o f B iochem istry and M ed ica l Sciences, and D ire c to r o f H o rm one Laboratory at the U n iv e rs ity o f Californ ia , visited H o ng K o n g w ith M rs . L i towards the end o f Novem ber after th e ir vis it to Ind ia , where he was in vited to open the Congress o f the F ifth In te rn a tio n a l Symposium on Comparative E ndocrinolog y w ith a lecture. D r. L i was en route to T a ip e i to advise the presidents o f bo th the N a tion a l T aiw an U n iv e rsity and the Academ ia Sinica on graduate studies in C hem istry. F rom T aiw an he went to the Philippines at the in v ita tio n o f the Governm ent, to present the firs t annual lecture o f the President M arcos series at the U n iv e rs ity o f P hilippines and at the U n iv e rsity o f Santo Tomas. D r. L i, a younger b ro th e r o f V ice -C hance llo r Choh- M in g L i, is a member o f the A d viso ry Board o f N a tu ra l Sciences o f this u n ive rsity, in w h ich capacity he advises the research in stitu tes and the G raduate School. He is the w o rld 's foremost a u th o rity on the p itu ita ry gland and is responsible fo r isolating the A C T H and H G H hormones. D r. L i won the A lb e rt Lasker M ed ica l Research Aw a rd, one o f the highest recognitions in basic medical research in the U n ite d States. He was appointed F a cu lty Research L e c tu re r at the U n iv e rsity o f C a lifo rn ia San Francisco M ed ica l Centre, one o f the highest honours th a t the u n ive rsity fa cu lty can confer on one o f its members. Δ S ir Sydney Caine, K .C .M .G ., L L .D ., B.Sc., a member o f the A d viso ry Board on Social Sciences and Business A dm in is tra tio n o f the un ive rsity, visited the un ive rsity on 8th and 14th N o vem b e r, 1967, and gave a lecture on "R ecen t Developments in B ritis h U n iv e r­ sitie s" in the Rotunda o f New Asia College on the 14th. A t each college he was received by the President and top adm in istra tive officers. S ir Sydney Caine was F inancial Secretary o f Hong K o n g from 1937 to 1940. He has since been V ice- Chancellor o f the U n iv e rs ity o f Malaya (1952-56), D ire c to r o f the L o n d o n School o f Econom ics (1957-67), and Chairm an o f the In te rn a tion a l In s titu te o f Educa- tio n a l P lanning (U N E S C O ) (1963). Δ D r. Robert Yee, D ire c to r o f Southeast Asian Studies, Central W ashington State College, visited U n ite d College on 3rd Novem ber and exchanged views w ith the College au thorities on the p o ssib ility o f academic co-operation between the tw o in stitu tio n s. D r. Yee also made a call on the U n iv e rs ity Registrar, M r. H .T . W u, at the Central Office. Δ President T .C . Ou o f N ew Asia College gave a reception on 2nd N ovem ber fo r tw o visito rs from the U n ite d States, M rs . A . W h itn e y G risw o ld , w ife o f the fo rm e r president o f Yale U n ive rsity, and M rs . Paul C ruikshank, fo rm e r p rin cip a l o f T a ft School. Δ D r. L yn n e L . M e rritt, Jr., V ice-P resident fo r Research and Dean o f Advanced Studies, and D r. Joseph H a rtle y, Associate Dean o f the Faculties, Indiana U n iv e rs ity , visited U n ite d College on 10th and 11th N ovem ber. T h e y conferred w ith the College authorities and also attended the A nn ua l D in n e r o f the College Board o f Trustees. Δ Professor John C. Pelzel, D ire cto r, H a rvard- Y en ching In s titu te , visited N ew Asia College on 11th N ovem ber and exchanged views w ith Professor Tang C h u n -i, D ire c to r o f the In s titu te o f Advanced Chinese Studies and Research, N ew Asia College, at a reception given in Professor Pelzel's honour. 8
