T h ic h M in h -c h a u , President o f Van Hanh U n iv e rs ity , V ietnam , called at the In s titu te o f Advanced Chinese Studies and Research, New Asia College, on 23rd Novem ber, and exchanged views w ith its members on subjects o f m utua l interest at a reception held in his honour. Pan C hung-kw e i, Head o f the D epartm ent o f Chinese L ite ra tu re at N ew Asia College, returned to H o ng K o n g on 24th N ovem ber after a 4 -m o n th study to u r o f educational in s titu tio n s in the m ajor cities o f Europe and Am erica. COLLEGE NEWS A T h e Board o f Trustees o f U n ited College held its A n n ua l D in n e r on 10th N o vem ber. D r. C .M . L i, V ice-Chancellor, and M rs. L i attended as the Guests of H onour. Overseas guests included D r. L y n n e L . M e rritt, Jr. and D r. Joseph H a rtle y o f Indiana U n ive rsity and D r. H e n ry Landau o f Bell Telephone Laboratory. A t the D in n e r, D r. L i spoke o f the U n ive rsity's G roun d -B re a kin g Ceremony on 9th December to in - augurate the b u ild in g programme o f the U n iv e rs ity at Shatin, and extended an in v ita tio n to every member of the College Board to attend. T h e D inne r, an annual fun c tio n , provided an op po r- tu n ity fo r members o f the College Board to meet the Vice-Chancellor. Δ T h e Shaw F oundation o f Singapore made a generous donation o f $ 10,000 in N ovem ber to U n ited College th rou gh M r. Run Run Shaw, member o f the College Board o f Trustees and world-renow ned film in d u stria lis t. T h e donation w ill go in to the College E ndowm ent Fund, the income from w h ich is used to provide scholarships fo r deserving students o f the College and to im p rove the general welfare o f the students. T h e U n ite d C h ristian C hurch in Caracas, Venezuela, in response to an appeal th rou gh the k in d ­ ness o f M rs. Veronica T so i in South America, has also generously donated US$300 towards the Fund. Δ Y a le -in -C h ina Scholarships were open to applica- tio n this year at N ew Asia College from 16th to 25th November. T h e Y a le -in -C h in a Scholarship, started in 1958, sends one or two students to the U n ite d States every year fo r postgraduate studies. Δ N ew Asia College on 2nd Novem ber announced its appo intm en t o f advisers fo r the 1967-68 academic year, 60 in all fo r its 14 departments — one fo r each o f the 12 groups o f the Depa rtm ent o f English Language and L ite ra tu re , one fo r each o f the two years o f the Journalism, course, and one fo r each year fo r the other departments. Δ A Religious Emphasis Week was held at Chung C h i College from 27th N ovem ber to 1st December. T h e h igh lig h ts were fo u r speeches given by M r. Moses Hsu, General Secretary o f the Chinese Christian L ite ra tu re Coun cil, exam ining h isto ry from a layman's p o in t o f view , and a panel discussion.
