Intellectual Cross-currents   51 Prof. Wang Gungwu on Overseas Chinese C hung Chi College, New Asia College and the Department of History jointly organized the ‘Yu Ying-shih Lecture Series in History’ in October 2008. Prof. Wang Gungwu, university professor at the National University of Singapore, was the guest speaker. His lectures, ‘Being Overseas Chinese’ and ‘Empires, Zhongguo, Tianxia: China and World History’, were delivered respectively on CUHK campus and at the Hong Kong Museum of History. Secretary for Justice on Leadership T he Honourable Wong Yan-lung, SC, Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, shared his views on ‘Leadership and Service’ with some 1,500 students at the Shaw College assembly on 7 November 2008. Prof. Lap-chee Tsui on ‘New Asia Genes’ T his year marks the 60th anniversary of New Asia College. The College hosted the first anniversary lecture on 20 February 2009 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. Prof. Lap-chee Tsui, internationally renowned geneticist and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong, was invited to be the guest speaker. An alumnus of New Asia College, Prof. Tsui’s talk attracted an audience of close to 700, including members of the political, commercial and education sectors.
