106 Part 3 • Department Profiles and Programmes of Studies Programme in Computer Engineering offers courses in areas including computer interfacing, very large-scale integration circuit design (VLSI), computer-aided design and microprocessor systems. Students can also choose from courses on subjects including artificial intelligence, Chinese computing, computer animation technology, virtual reality, computer security, bioinformatics and data mining. Our graduate programme offers research-oriented MPhil–PhD programme in computer science and engineering. The academic staffs in our department are internationally well-known and are making significant progress in many important areas, for example: artificial intelligence, computational finance and data mining; databases and multimedia systems; graphics, virtual reality, visualization and digital entertainments; data communication networks and distributed systems; bio- informatics; computer and network security; embedded systems; re-configurable computing; VLSI and CAD; and software engineering. More importantly, our graduates are leaders in various IT and banking industries, both in Hong Kong and abroad. Many of our graduate students also further their studies, either in our department or in some prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Princeton, University of California at Berkeley, etc. For further information of our department, please refer to our URL.
