Department Profiles • Science 119 Department of Statistics Tel.: 2609 7931 Fax.: 2603 5188 E-mail: statdept@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.sta.cuhk.edu.hk The department offers BSc and MPhil programmes in statistics and risk management science, MSc programmes in data science and business statistics and risk management science, and a PhD programme in statistics. Statistics is fundamental to all fields such as bioinformatics, life sciences, public health, information engineering, finance, and the social sciences, where quantitative analysis is essential. The Risk Management Science Programme focuses on business, finance and insurance applications. The curricula of the programmes are well balanced between practice and theory. Students in the statistics programme can choose to specialize in either the Applied Statistics Stream or the Data Science and Business Statistics Stream. The department possesses advanced computing facilities and software. Its faculty engage actively in research, and have wide-ranging research interests in applied and theoretic statistics. Many have also gained significant international recognition.
