Buildings and Facilities At present, Shaw College has 27 Fellows and well over 200 academic members. The college's administration team are accommodated at Wen Lan Tang, which is a seven-storey building connecting the upper and lower levels of the college campus. College buildings completed in October 1989 This building also houses a microcomputer laboratory, reading rooms, function rooms and locker rooms. There is a twin-block student hostel for about 600 students. The student September 1989 — The College Head and the Dean of Students took the first shuttle bus of Shaw College with students and staff from the Transport Office. canteen with a beautiful view of Tolo Harbour is located on the lower ground floor of the student hostel. Next to the student hostel is the amenities centre which comprises a multi-purpose hall, a music room, a TV room, gymnasia, squash courts, and a staff canteen. Ya Qun Lodge, the staff hostel, stands next to Wen Lan Tang. There are about 14 flatlets for longer term accommodation and four units for short-term stays by visiting scholars. There is also a flatlet being planned for college staff to meet students in the evenings. A lecture theatre complex is being built on a site adjacent to the entrance of the college. College Activities Since January 1988, Shaw College has organized many lectures in its monthly assemblies and the dinner lecture series, as well as in collaboration w i th other academic departments. There are at present six formal and several informal general education courses for students of the college. In October 1989, Professor Yuan- Tseh Lee, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and professor of chemistry of the University of California at Berkeley, accepted the college's invitation to be the '1989 Sir Run Run Shaw Distinguished V i s i t i ng Scholar'. Professor and Mrs. Lee visited the Shaw College campus and met with the staff and students.
