lecture, ran a seminar for the graduate students from the Departments of Physics and Chemistry, and delivered an open lecture at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on 'Combustion of Fossil Fuels and the Human Society'. On 12th January 1990, Shaw College celebrated its second Founders' Day with a tea reception in the student canteen, which was attended by over 100 guests, staff and students. Professor Ma Lin, Professor C. N. Chen, Mr. Yuen Wai-kuen (a student of the graduating class), and Mr. Lee Kwok-tung (Chairman of the Students' Organizing Committee for the Second Founders' Day Celebration) all delivered speeches at the reception. The highlight of the celebration was a banquet organized for staff and students of the college on the evening Professor Ma Lin on the celebration of the second anniversary of Shaw College Cake-cutting ceremony Guests at the reception of 12th January. More than 60 tables were laid for the banquet, which was followed by a variety show on the University Avenue that lasted until midnight. Celebration banquet in front of Wen Lan Tang (Administration Building) Grand Opening Celebrations Towards the end of February 1990, Shaw College will be celebrating its official opening with the following functions: Concert On Wednesday, 28th February, there will be an ensemble concert by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. On the same evening, the Shaw College song composed by Professor Lin Shen-shih will be performed for the first time. Symposium On Thursday, 1st March, an international symposium on 'The Roles of Colleges in a University' will be held at the Cho Yiu Conference Hall from 9.25 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. This symposium will be chaired by Professor L. B. Thrower (Emeritus Professor of Biology, C.U.H.K.). Speakers will include Professor Frederick G. T. Ho l l i day (V i ce -Chance l l or and Warden, University of Durham, U.K.), Professor Dean E. McHenry (Chancellor Emeritus, University of California at Santa Cruz, U.S.A.), Professor D. H. Northcote (Master, Sidney Sussex College, Un i ve r s i ty of Cambridge, U.K.), Professor Robin W.
