Ng (CU Student Union) Mr. Mark Sheldon (Office of Academic Links) Ms. Teresita Botello (Music) Dr. Gilbert Fong (Translation) Dr. Wong Wai-leung (Chinese Language and Literature) Secretary Mr. Hardy Tsoi Local Education Allowance Following the government's revision of the rates of local education allowance for dependent children of c i v il servants, the maximum allowance payable to eligible staff in the University has been increased from 1st September as follows: For each child attending a primary school: HK$23,175 per year For each child attending a secondary school: (i) Form I to Form I I I — HK$38,400 per year (ii) Form I V and above — HK$36,038 per year The basic charge an appointee has to pay towards the school fee of his child who attends Form I V or above has also been revised from HK$2,550 to HK$3,150 per year. Housing Subsidy for Clinical Teachers The University and Polytechnic Grants Committee has informed the University that a housing subsidy in the form of an additional cash allowance at five per cent of basic monthly salary or five per cent of the maximum point in the equivalent Hospital Authority (HA) pay scale may now be granted to eligible clinical academic appointees of the University with effect from the date of their appointment on HA-equivalent terms, and subject to no double benefits being enjoyed by the appointees and their spouses. Application forms for the said housing subsidy are available at the Personnel Office and the Bursar's Office. Talk on Japanese Economics Chung Chi College and the Department of Japanese Studies have invited Dr. Shigeru Ishiwata, professor of economics at International Christian University, Japan, to give a seminar on macroeconomic performance and labour force in postwar Japan. Dr. Ishiwata is a distinguished scholar in macroeconomics and his research and teaching interests lie in studies of national income and economic development. The seminar (to be conducted in English) w i ll be held on 1st November at G7, Ho Tim Building, at 3.00 p.m. For enquiries, please call Ext. 6466. 42nd Anniversary of Chung Chi College Chung Chi College w i ll hold its 42nd Founders' Day Thanksgiving Service on 29th October at 11.30 a.m. in the College Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Chow Tin Wo, District Minister of Tsung Tsin Mission, Hong Kong, will address the assembly. The college's alumni association w i ll organize an alumni banquet on 30th October at the Chung Chi Staff Club. A l l college graduates, especially those who graduated in 1968 , 1973 and 1983 , are welcome. International Symposium on Historical Archives of Pre-1949 Christian Higher Education in China An international symposium on historical archives of pre-1949 Christian higher education in China will be held from 9th to 11th December 1993 at the lower lounge of the Chung Chi Chapel by Chung Chi College to facilitate the exchange of ideas and research findings in the subject, and to cultivate further cooperation among scholars and researchers in the field. United College's 37th Anniversary Celebration The 37th anniversary ceremony of United College will be held on Friday, 22nd October at 11.30 a.m. at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. A celebration party and lion dance w i ll be held after the ceremony on the UC campus. A l l members of the college are welcome. United College Distinguished Visiting Scholar Prof. Sidney Greenbaum, director of Survey of English Usage at University College London, will visit United College from 14th to 25th November 1993 as the college's first Distinguished Visiting Scholar for 1993-94.
