Information in this section can only  be accessed with CWEM password .   若要瀏覽本部分的資料， 請須輸入 中大校園電子郵件密碼 。 香港史前社會文化展覽 Exhibition: Unearthing Hong Kong Before the Advent of Writing 無文字記載的社會，充滿著神秘與魅力。考古學家能將久 藏土地下的古代香港社會，復現於世上。 「發掘無文字的香港——香港中文大學十年考古收穫」展 覽，將於本月廿五日至明年一月十日在文物館西翼展覽廳舉 行，由中國文化研究所的中國考古藝術研究中心和文物館合 辦。是項專題展覽的內容，結合了中國考古藝術研究中心近十 年的考古成果，系統地展示香港史前時期的社會風貌。展品包 括表徵古代香港禮制的牙璋、反映人類最早期樹皮布文化的服 飾製作工具、普遍作為人們裝身飾物的玉石器、以人面為紋飾 的青銅劍，以及當時的居住遺蹟、生產工具和生活器具等。除 了重構史前香港的社會文化外，更展現了歷史研究利用科學技 術所取得的突破；在回顧之餘，亦可前瞻廿一世紀的考古活 動。 預展會於十一月廿四日下午四時半舉行，主禮嘉賓包括中 國社會科學院考古研究所安志敏教授、日本國學院大學加藤晋 平教授、中山大學商志千(香覃)教授、香港民政事務局古物古蹟辦事 處執行秘書招紹瓚先生、香港歷史博物館總館長丁新豹博士， 以及李國章校長。 展覽期間，中國考古藝術研究中心和文物館將於展場以特 價銷售旗下書籍。 The exhibition 'Unearthing Hong Kong Before the Advent of Writing: A Decade of Archaeology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong' will take place from 25th November 1998 to 10th January 1999 in the West-wing Galleries of the Art Museum. Jointly organized by the Centre for Chinese Archaeology and Art and the Art Museum, the exhibition features archaeological finds resulting from ten years' intensive excavation work conducted by the centre. Through systematic staging of the archaeological finds, this exhibition will present the prehistoric life of Hong Kong society. Exhibits include the jade yazhang-tablet, symbolising the ritual system of this archaic society and implements representing the earliest bark-cloth culture in the world. There are also assorted pieces of jade and decorative stone items fashionable at the time, a bronze sword adorned with human face design, remains of huts, production tools, and daily vessels. Over and above the reconstruction of some social and cultural aspects of prehistoric Hong Kong, there are also unexpected breakthroughs in historical study by way of scientific technology. Moreover, the retrospective element of this exhibition w i ll bring to the fore a vision of archaeology in the forthcoming millenium. During the exhibition, publications of the organizers will be on sale at the venue. A ll are welcome to attend. 東亞玉器國際硏討會 East Asian jade International Symposium 中國考古藝術研究中心將於本月廿三至廿七日在大學行政 樓祖堯堂主辦「東亞玉器國際研討會」，以配合「發掘無文字的 香港一一香港中文大學十年考古收穫」展覽，並誌念鄭德坤教 授創立該中心和中心成立二十周年。 研討會將以第一線田野考古工作為基礎，探討傳統考古學 方法之玉器研究，玉器之礦物科學分析，玉器於古文化及社會 的地位及應用等，期以中國玉器為研究重心，反映東亞古代玉 器文化之全貌。與會學者約一百人，來自亞洲、歐洲、美洲。 會議由文物館協辦。 Accompanying the above exhibition will be the East Asian Jade International Symposium, to take place from 23rd to 27th November at the Cho Yiu Conference Hall. The symposium is specially organized to commemorate the founding of the Centre for Chinese Archaeology and Art by Prof. Cheng Te-k'un and to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the centre. With archaeological fieldwork forming the basis of discussion, the objective of the symposium is to study the ancient jade culture of East Asia. The analysis of jade through traditional archaeological approaches w i ll be augmented by scientific investigations by mineralogists. The use of jade in ancient culture and its role in delineating social status will also be discussed. 1998 Staff Ball The Staff Common Room Club and the staff clubs and associations of the four colleges will jointly organize the 1998 CUHK Staff Ball on Saturday, 12th December at 7.30 p.m. at the Ballroom of Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Central. Featuring the theme of 'East Meets West', there will be a 25-minute performance of opera singing by Dr. Derek Anthony, an internationally renowned opera singer, and Prof. Andrew Chan of the Faculty of Business Administration. Dress code for the evening will be ethnic costume, black tie, or lounge suit. A ll participants in the 1998 CUHK Staff Ball will enjoy a lavish four-course dinner and lucky draw for the special subsidized price of $550 per head. Staff who do not want to miss this event are advised to reserve tables (10 or 12 persons per table) and buy tickets before all 220 seats are booked.
