Institute of Chinese Medicine Co-organizes ‘Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China – Hong Kong’ Programmes

The Institute of Chinese Medicine, CUHK, organized two events under the Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China – Hong Kong Programme, for the Hong Kong public.

The Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China Programme is organized by 17 mainland government bodies including the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a nation-wide campaign lasting three years and covering the major provinces and cities, including Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong programme is organized by the Food and Health Bureau in collaboration with more than 40 organizations in the Chinese medicine sector. It aims at fostering Chinese medicine development in Hong Kong and facilitating exchange between mainland and Hong Kong. The kick-off ceremony was held on 24 November 2007.

The two events organized by the ICM were the open day of the Chinese Medicine Museum and Herbal Garden, and the Chinese Medicine Workshop. The events took place on 26 November and 28 December respectively. Prof. Liang Zinying of the School of Chinese Medicine, and Prof. P.C. Shaw of the ICM and the Department of Biochemistry were invited to deliver two seminars during the workshop. These were followed by a demonstration session on the techniques of Chinese medicine authentication.

A total of 80 people and Chinese medicine partitioners participated in the workshop.
