第322期 2008年9月4日 No. 322 4 September 2008 暑期校園 朝氣 歡樂 知識 A Summer of Fun and Learning on CUHK Campus 暑期的中大校園,沒有因學期結束而沉寂下來。一群群穿上營衣的中小學生穿梭其間, 帶來活潑生氣。他們都是來參加中大舉辦的各類夏令營或活動,以趣味方式探索 各項專科的領域,並一嘗大學校園生活,感受這片孕育知識的土壤氣質。 The young and happy faces of primary and secondary school students could be seen everywhere on campus this past summer as different events were organized for their benefit by the University. 衞星遙感科學夏令營 Satellite Remote Sensing Science Summer Camp 由 中大太空與地球信息科學研究所圓玄衞星遙感研究中心主辦的「衞星遙感科學夏令營」 於8月14及15日舉行。十多名中學生透過理論學習與實踐,掌握對衞星遙感科學的知 識,提高對地球和自然科學的興趣。 夏令營活動結合課堂教學和參觀考察,學生可親身利用衞星數據及圖像分析軟件,研習可持續 發展、沙漠化、城市環境問題及珠三角城市化等課題。他們亦參觀了中大的衞星遙感地面接收 站,觀摩研究人員接收衞星圖像數據,以至處理、分析及製圖等過程。 仁濟醫院第二中學的許嘉寶同學認為是次活動使她眼界大開:「它讓我了解遙感科技在不同方 面的應用,例如可以分辨地球表面不同的生態,以及評估各種環境問題。」 T he Satellite Remote Sensing Science Summer Camp, held on 14 and 15 August, was organized by the Yuen Yuen Research Centre for Satellite Remote Sensing, the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science. The programme aimed at enriching the knowledge on satellite remote sensing science of the participating secondary students and arousing their interest in earth and natural science. Combining classroom learning with visits, participants explored topics such as sustainable development, desertification, urban environmental problems and the urbanization of the Pearl River Delta. They learnt to make use of satellite sourced remote sensing data and apply image analysis software. They also visited the Satellite Remote Sensing Receiving Station on campus to observe how researchers process and apply collected information. Hui Kar-bo, a participant from Yan Chai Hospital No. 2 Secondary School, said the camp was eye-opening. ‘I learnt about remote sensing technology and its applications such as for differentiating ecological systems on earth surface and assessing environmental problems.’ 創意機械人夏令營 Robotic Summer Camp 於 7月底舉行的「創意機械人夏令營2008」,由工程學院機械人及科技教育中心 主辦,是全港首個專為中小學生而設的機械人創作學習營,今年吸引近一百四 十名中小學生參加。 學習營為期五天,學生可學習機械人學的基礎知識,如傳感器、機械人運動及操作等 原理,並作專題研習及創意習作。每人均須親自製作一輛機械車和一部起重機,參加 賽車或舉重比賽。 升中一的吳雋樂表示,控制機械人很有挑戰性,希望將來可以再參加,學習更多有關 機械人的知識。 A five-day camp named ‘Robotic Summer Camp 2008’ jointly organized by the Faculty of Engineering, CUHK and the Centre for Robotics and Technology Education drew close to 140 secondary and primary school students to the campus in late July. The youngsters learnt basic robotics concepts such as the principles of remote sensing, control and movement of robots. Using the knowledge acquired, they were encouraged to engage in a creative project, wherein each participant had to build his/her own robot and robotic vehicle to compete against others'. Ng Chun-lok, a Secondary 1 participant, said controlling robots was a challenge, and if given the chance, he would join the summer camp again to learn more about them. 暑期工程學習計劃夏令營 Summer Engineering Academy 為 期兩周、由工程學院、香港教育工作者聯會、教育局資優教育組及創新 科技署合辦的「2008年暑期工程學習計劃」夏令營於7月中旬舉行,共有 近百名理科中學生參加。 夏令營主題為生物醫學工程學,採用大學授課模式,由工程學院教授介紹生物醫 學機械、納米科技、虛擬解剖學等生物醫學工程的知識。學生亦參觀了中大醫學 院在威爾斯親王醫院的中大賽馬會微創醫療技術培訓中心,以及矯形外科及創傷 學進修培訓中心,並由醫學院的教授講解生物醫學工程學對醫療科技的貢獻。 C lose to a hundred elite secondary science students had their first taste of the broad field of biomedical engineering at the Summer Engineering Academy 2008, a two-week camp held in mid July. The camp was jointly organized by the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, and the Gifted Education Section of the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government and the Innovation and Technology Commission. The camp adopted biomedical engineering as its theme. Students not only received university- style lectures given by professors from the Faculty of Engineering that updated them on topics related to biomedical engineering, such as medical and surgical robotics, medical use of nanotechnologies and virtual anatomy, they also visited the CUHK Jockey Club Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Centre and the Orthopaedic Learning Centre of the CUHK Faculty of Medicine at the Prince of Wales Hospital to learn from medical professors about the many contributions of biomedical engineering to medical technology. 全國互聯網機器人大賽 Shun Hing National Internet Robotics Inter-School Competition 中 大工程學院機械與自動化工程學系、中大機 械人及科技教育中心,以及香港科技教育學 會合辦的「2008信興全國互聯網機器人大賽」,於 7月底舉行。比賽首次拓展至國內其他主要城市, 包括北京、上海、深圳、廣州及澳門等。 決賽當日,六十隊精英中小學隊伍齊集中大。賽事 共分三個組別,經過一番激烈比拼後,指定機械人 組由張沛松紀念中學勇奪冠軍;自製機械人組冠軍 為台山商會中學;至於造形設計比賽中,指定機械 人組及自製機械人組的冠軍,分別由南海桂城中學 及張沛松紀念中學奪得。 透過參加比賽,學生能從實踐中學習互聯網技術、 機械人設計,以及電腦及訊息系統等操作程式。 J ointly organized by the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at CUHK, the Centre for Robotics and Technology Education, and the Hong Kong Technology Education Association, the Shun Hing National Internet Robotics Inter- School (IRIS) Competition 2008 was held in late July. For the first time, the competition was extended beyond Hong Kong to include other major cities in mainland China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Macau. A total of 60 primary and secondary school teams from Hong Kong and the mainland made it to the finals, which consisted of three categories. After rounds of intense competition, Chang Pui Chung Memorial School and Toi Shan Association College emerged as the champions of IRIS1 and IRIS2 respectively, while Nanhai Guicheng Middle School and Chang Pui Chung Memorial School took home the championships in IRIS1 and IRIS2 Robots Design Competition respectively. By participating in the IRIS competition, students acquired and practised Internet skills, robotics design abilities and techniques for operating information systems.
