The CUHK team defeated the HKU team by 3:0 in the Ninth CUHK-HKU Vice-Chancellors Cup Football Competition which was held on 18 March at the Sir Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field at CUHK. The kick-off ceremony was officiated by Prof. Henry N.C. Wong, Acting Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Tsui Lap-chee, Vice-Chancellor of HKU.

The competition was first launched in 2003 to celebrate the concerted efforts between two universities in combating severe acute respiratory syndrome, and eventually it became an annual event. The CUHK team has won six times while the HKU team won once in all nine matches. Two ended in a draw.
