Asian Medical Students Take Action Against Smoking


The opening ceremony of the 27th Asian Medical Students' Conference 2006 (AMSC) was held on 24th July 2006 at Shaw College. AMSC is an annual convention of medical students across Asia and Oceania, serving as a platform for international academic and cultural exchanges. This year's conference was organized by the Asian Medical Students' Association Hong Kong, and supported by The University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The theme was 'Tobacco—Its Burden on Health and Society'.

The officiating guests were Dr. The Honourable York Chow, Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr. T.L. Nguyen, Programme Officer, Tobacco Free Initiative, World Health Organization, Prof. T.F. Fok, Dean, CUHK Faculty of Medicine, Prof. S.K. Lam, Dean, The University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. S.H. Lee, Emeritus Professor of Community Medicine, CUHK.

The opening ceremony marked the start of a series of activities to promote a smoke-free culture in Hong Kong.
