previouspausenext

The CUHK ‘International Poets in Hong Kong’ invite the famous Syrian poet Adonis to visit Hong Kong to meet with local poets, readers and fans in October. A series of poetry activities have taken place during his stay in Hong Kong, including recitation, symposium and public lecture. Adonis joined the ‘Symposium – With Local Hong Kong Poets’ and discussed with local poets including Yesi (Leung Ping-kwan), Liu Wai-yong, Chan Ning and Matthew Cheng on writing and literature.

Organized by Prof. Bei Dao of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and co-organized by Oxford University Press (China) Limited and the Commercial Press (H.K.) Limited, ‘International Poets in Hong Kong’ has already invited five internationally renowned poets to visit Hong Kong since 2010. Adonis, a perennial contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature, is one of the most important poets and theorists of literature in the Arab world; he is also a very important contemporary thinker in any language or context.
