CUHK Holds Exhibition on Barkcloth Clothes

previouspausenext

When it comes to the fabric, modern people have a wide range of choices, ranging from natural fabrics like silk, cotton, wool, linen, to manmade fibers like nylon, polyester, spandex. But do you know that barkcloth was an important material for making clothes for the ancients? Academics recently pointed out that the global barkcloth culture might be originated in South China. CUHK holds an exhibition showcasing over 50 valuable pieces of barkcloth stone beaters from Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan as well as ethnological materials. It is the world’s first search for the origins of barkcloth clothes from an archaeological perspective.
