2007 Summer Institute Organized by WrITE Project

The 2007 Summer Institute organized by the Writing for Integrated Teacher Education (WrITE) Project of the Faculty of Education, CUHK, was successfully held in the period of 16–27 July 2007 with 16 primary and secondary school teachers (Summer Fellows) participating in the event.

Summer Fellows attending the Summer Institute learned from one another through the Teaching and Learning Exploration (TALE) sessions, in which good teaching practices were demonstrated and ideas were exchanged. In addition to the TALE, Summer Fellows also engaged in writing in different formats and genres, including daily logs, summary reports of TALE, position papers and creative writing. The Summer Fellows produced a collection of position papers and an anthology during the Summer Institute.

Another highlight of the 2007 Summer Institute was the two-day thematic session on ‘Writing for Success’, facilitated by Mr. Stuart Mead (a 2004 Summer Fellow). Mr. Mead prepared some activities such as group work and poem recitation to inspire teachers’ creativity and critical thinking in English teaching. The Summer Fellows were briefed on how to use different approaches to make English lessons more interesting.

Each Summer Fellow got a copy of Alex’s Quest, a story book published by the WrITE Project. The book was written by three secondary three students of Chong Gene Hang College under the auspices of Mr. Mead and the WrITE Project. The three authors (Keith Chan, Simon Sze and Leon Wong) shared their experience and feelings as student writers with the Summer Fellows.

A celebration ceremony was held on 27 July 2007 to conclude the Summer Institute.
